SRGC Members
On behalf of the Management and Membership Committee of the South Riding Golf Club, we would like to welcome you to the 2011 golf season.
As we all know, 2010 was a tough year. We saw some decline in our membership numbers, and thus we experienced a decline in participation during member events. In response to this decline, we have reworked the member tournament schedule and added several events that are open to members and the general public. We hope that these changes result in expanded tournament fields and prizes, new and different formatted events and an opportunity to meet golfers from outside the South Riding community.
Another change that we have incorporated into the 2011 tournament structure is ‘flighting’. When you sign up for a tournament this year, you will elect whether you wish to play in the ‘Gross Flight’, the ‘Net Flight’ or the new ‘Senior Net Flight’ which will be played from the White tees. We hope that flighting the tournament field in this way will permit exciting, fair and competitive play within each flight and encourage more members to participate in events.
We are all very excited about the upcoming season and hope to see an increase in the number of members playing in tournaments. The reason that I am a member at SRGC is for the ability to play in tournaments, A-Team, Ryder Cup team and for competitive golf. For those that have never played on the Ryder Cup team, ask around… It is a great event. This year, with the changes to the tournaments and the revised points system, more members will have a chance to participate on the Ryder Cup team and play against our ‘little sister course’ Pleasant Valley.
The 2011 Membership Committee had its first meeting in January and is eager to get things underway. We will continue to meet on a monthly basis throughout the calendar year on Wednesday nights (once a month) to discuss events, upcoming tournaments and the member / guest weekend. I encourage you to contact me, any member of the Membership Committee, or a member of the Professional Staff if you have an issue that you would like discussed at one of these meetings. We also plan to have one open member meeting this year, where all members will be invited to attend and learn about the current state of the club, discuss issues they have, or make suggestions that could be beneficial for the Membership Committee to discuss with Club Management.
We encourage you to read the entire program and note those events in which you may be interested. In addition, the South Riding Golf Club Newsletter is full of up-to-date Club information and can be viewed in the Members section of our website or emailed to you. If you have any questions, the professional staff and/or the South Riding Golf Club Membership Committee are always at your service.
Enjoy your golf!
Sincerely,
Chris Warfield
Chairman, South Riding Golf Club Membership Committee
